The Darwin Dragons have confirmed they’re investigating an alleged assault incident involving rising star Patrick Herbert.
Chief executive John Doubleton said the club and the ASRL are looking into an incident from last Saturday evening, which Herbert brought to the attention of Dragons bosses.
“On Sunday, Patrick reported an incident to the club that occurred at his house involving family members and friends,” Doubleton told the Northern Herald.
“We are working with both families and the ASRL as regards to the incident and there is nothing further to add.”
The Herald reported a Alice Springs woman Elizabeth Baker alleged in a Facebook post that Herbert and his mother had attacked her 19-year-old son.
The post has since been deleted.
It is understood police weren’t called to the incident and charges haven’t been laid.
Herbert, 22, has represented the Junior Kiwis but is yet to play a first-grade game.
He took part in the Dragons first trial last month against Melbourne in Geelong.
The versatile outside back spent three years in the lower ranks with the Alice Springs Dingoes before being promoted to the Darwin Dragons top squad..
It is the first off-field incident to come to light at the Darwin club this week.
Herbert has not been selected for Alice Springs' game against the spanish giants Catalunya.
Further news when it comes to hand.
