The Winners Perch
Weekly summary from the winners perch, the clubs that had their way with opponents in the previous week.
Darwin
A scintillating effort defensively last week saw the peoples team, Glasgow, held to zero in a match where Darwin made a statement regarding their credentials for 2019.
The game was tighter than the 18-0 score reflected but under the Dons leadership (cough), the Darwin boys kept their nerve.
Auckland
The NZ boys have been running hot of late, with another good win over Fairfield kicking along their rise towards the top of the table.
Getting belted 9-4 in the penalties just made the 22-16 win even more satisfying.
On a sour note, a couple of major injuries to George Burgess & John Bateman are going to test the forward depth in the next few weeks.
Hull
An overdue top notch performance from Hull, accounting for the “strong on paper” Canberra side with a 32-14 thumping.
Padds has somehow got Adam Reynolds running game ticking, with the little tattooed one crossing for 2 tries & delivering an overall sublime performance.
Gold Coast
The Melbourne fans were rioting after this match, with a 10-0 penalty count to Gold Coast making things a little easier than they might have been with a 32-22 win.
“The Snail”, Morgan Escare delivered his best performance in years, scoring 2 tries & taking out MOM honours.
Melbourne were so bad, its hard to judge Gold Coast on this effort, but a wins a win & the Queenslanders move on to next weeks match in good shape.
Brisbane Cougars
Accounting for the new of juggernauts of ASRL is never easy, but Brisbane have put the Oilers back in their box with a tidy 2818 victory. The match was a nailbiter right up until the last minute, when Rhys Hanbury, yer, Rhys Hanbury set up James Maloney for the matchwinner.
Adelaide
Performance of the week from Macks Men at Adelaide, accounting for the strong Cape town outfit in scintillating fashion, 32-10 against all the odds.
There is so much scope for improvement, it’s a real warning for other teams.
To lose penalties 9-2, & have a pissly poor 58% completion rate, & still thump a side of Capetowns calibre sends a chill through many an opposing coaches spine.
