Canberra
The pommies are firing at Canberra with Elliot Whitehead & former Orca, Jonny Lomax heading the POM points.
Injuries do look like slowing them up next week & beyond with some major concerns fr Liam Watts, Nick Cotric & Ryan Hall giving the physios at Canberra plenty of OT this week……, but their form is sublime & the balanced squad looks threatening all over the park at present.
Auckland/ Brisbane sort of both winners
The ref & home crowd, with a 10-3 helped get a limp Auckland to an undeserved draw with lowly Brisbane.
Auckland have been knocked around with injury & to top that all off, but of more concern was news that George Burgess has decided to get out on the piss rather than put in the work required to get him back on the field this week.
For Brisbane, halves Maloney & Cronk were simply excellent & it was only a dose of bad luck & blindly bias refereeing that cost Brisbane the major points.
Like Auckland, they have come out of the match with injuries galore.
Melbourne
A Great, but dour defensive effort got Melbourne to an 11-2 win over the struggling & out of form Capetown outfit.
The lack of spark, largely due to the poorly suited Mark Flanagan again selected out of position in the halves was not punished this week, but it does look worrying for the Monsters when they come up against a more inspiring & in form side in coming weeks.
Flanagan silenced his critics somewhat with a flukey try after backing up the “sharp as a tack” Josh Charnley in the 78th minute for a lucky win.
Monsters fans simply want to know when the defensive gun Flanagan is going to be put back where he belongs, & pushes the pissy Joe Westernman out of the crucial lock position.
Adelaide
Red Hot Adelaide have put the premiers to the sword with a 36-10 paddling in a game where Hull just had no answers.
The recently acquired Rhys Martin starred with 2 tries & 6 from 6 with the boot, showing what an asset he can be when in form. Rhys family hope that he has finally found a permanent home after a disrupted few seasons jumping around a number of clubs in short time.
Adelaide are simply the competition standouts right now, & it seems only a caching blunder could see this side topple from its lofty perch……however, with McCullogh & Tomkins picking up some significant injuries this week, joining Jake Trbojevic on the sidelines, is it the first sign of trouble at Adelaide in 2019.
Fairfield
Fairfield continue to surprise, this week with a shellacking of the underperforming & disappointing Glasgow side.
Ryan Shaws skinny legs didn’t hinder him with a 5 star performance delivering the winger a massive 18 points for the match.
Word is Dylan Edwards has been getting plenty of bombs sent his way at training, a weak link that has been spotted by opposing coaches in recent weeks.
Darwin
The only genuine challengers to Adelaide at present, Darwin gave the oilers & their coach Roger Bossert a reminder what it takes to be one of the big boys in the ASRL.
Mitchell Moses is possibly the best player in the competition at present, with 152 form & a team riddled with form & talent all around him.
Great looking team in scintillating form & few injury concerns.
