Chee-Kam to be Stood Down!
The ASRL Discipline Committee have stood down utility Michael Chee Kam from Canberra's Round 9 clash after he pleaded guilty to common assault.
Just hours after boarding a flight to Tamworth with teammates for a match, Chee Kam was told he would miss the game after admitting to assaulting a ride-share driver in December.
It's understood the decision to stand Chee Kam down came after the ASRL came over the top of the Canberra club on Friday afternoon, who had earlier wanted to make him available to play.
The Carnage are continuing to work with the integrity unit and at this stage the 27-year-old has only been stood down for one match.
Chee Kam was charged in January with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, however that was withdrawn and dismissed at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday.
Instead the New Zealand-born forward pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of common assault.
Chee Kam's matter was one of several dramas the ASRL Discipline Committee had to deal with over the off-season, prompting the league to take a hard-line stance on player behaviour.
The ASRL reiterates that the suspension will be served for Round 9 of the ASRL season!!!
