...and yes, Theo was wringing his old-school US Navy watch cap til calluses grew on his hands, trying to figure out where he could relocate his Florida Panthers' side...
...first, Wolverhampton was definitely out, as the old Thornhill Park had been redeveloped into an Aldi and a Betfair, whilst Molineux's owners refused to countenance any possibility of a groundshare with the Wolves...
...then, everywhere along the M62 outside of Hull was considered, and shelved, for one reason or another...even a sojourn at St. James Park was considered, but Mike Ashley sucked so badly, there was no way that would work, even though Rafa Benitez was very friendly and welcoming, that wasn't enough...
...the Stadium of Light was too dark for Theo's taste, and the stench of losing from the Black Cats didn't help, either...
...London, no! God no!
Theo even considered locating at Blackpool and naming the side the Home Guard, with the Dad's Army theme following the side out of the tunnel, what could possibly go wrong? (Besides the copyright issues, and the fact that the Dad's Army movie really, really sucked!)
Finally, a site near the M62 was selected, once the local authority and the local football side agreed to a joint redevelopment and financing plan for the existing stadium, to expand its seating capacity to 30,000, and upgrade its facilities...and boy, did the trades really make the expansion happen quick (thanks to cases of Scotch that happened to keep falling off of lorries, and overtime!)...
...the stadium will retain its name, but the stands were renamed...the main stand is now the David Taylor Stand, the Colin Baker and the Peter Davison Stands are on each goal end, and the opposite main stand is the Belle Vue Stand...
...welcome to the new Spotland, home of the Rochdale Raptors...and here's a demo logo graphic...
