Auckland Orcas have been fined $20k for not disclosing the Cody Walker incident to the ASRL. According to club sources Wayne Bennett has not been fined. They may appeal. Cody Walkers two weeks suspension.
Auckland Orcas star half Cody Walker has reportedly been suspended for two matches for a kung-fu style kick on a man during a fight in Casino.
The 30-year-old will miss his team’s following two games in the ASRL season after the ASRL handed down punishment for a video that emerged that showed Walker kicking another man in the chest.
The video, which was from December last year, came to light after Walker approached the police after reportedly being blackmailed for $20,000.
The blackmailer contacted Walker’s manager, Matt Rose asking for the money to stop the video from being leaked to the media.
The situation then took a dark twist when it was discovered the blackmailer’s phone number traced back to another player manager, who is now reportedly being investigated.
It’s expected Walker will accept the two-match ban after he told Channel Nine he would cop whatever punishment was handed to him.
“Whatever decision the game, the club, anyone come up with, that is what is going to happen,” Walker told Channel Nine on Monday night.
“I will not be appealing. I am very, very sorry.”
The Orcas have released a statement on Friday night.
“The Auckland Orcas have confirmed the receipt of a breach notice regarding non-compliance with the ASRL’s Code of Conduct from the ASRL today.
“The Club has five days to respond to the breach notice and will be taking that time to consider its position.
“The Orcass have no further comment to make at this time.”
