Another eventful week in the world of the ASRL with contract bidding screeching to a halt and coaches making last minute adjustments before the beginning of season proper on Friday. Here is the latest news from ASRLs ten super clubs:
Adelaide Attitude
An extremely successful bidding period marred only by a clerical error losing gun junior Paul Alomoti to Hull. Adelaide have lost Richie Myler, Manu Ma'u and Anthony Don from their championship squad. Tom Turbo and Jesse Ramien also leave the club with exciting junior AJ Brimson returning after a few miserable seasons at Auckland. The best news coming out of the South is the extensions of exciting youngsters Joseph Suaalii and Josh Schuster.
Auckland Orcas
It seems coach Bills wildest dreams have come true, with not only arguably the best fullback on the planet joining them, but club stalwart Damien Cook rejoining after a season at Perth. New signees Nelson- Asofoa-Solomona and Jesse Ramien will provide a lustre missing in 2020.
Brisbane Raiders
The return of coach Maunder has shook up to the ASRL to its very core. New club policy of only giving one season contracts means the club will be well endowed for next seasons predicted bloodfest in bidding with dozens of superstars off contract. Coach Maunder has taken the interesting approach of employing zero locks.
Darwin Dragons
With coach Dino currently on sabbatical, Darwin have managed to keep his championship team together.
Glasgow Reapers
Glasgow are said to be fuming after devious Hull coach Dave Paddock poached past RSC grand final winning Lee Gaskell, and equally sleasy coach Bill Townsend stole Rocco Berry. Glasgow will have less talent on-board but will still feel confident of going further into the finals in 2021.
Gold Coast Crusade
Like Brisbane, The Crusade are ready for a huge slice of next off seasons bidding. Joe Westerman is the new boy in town but stuck behind Jason Taumalolo a move to hooker is likely for the talented English gent.
Hull KR
It is said that coach Paddock was heard cackling in his tower when a clerical effort landed Adelaide youngster Paul Alomoti in his claws. Hull spent bidding buying depth after injuries left them a screaming mess on the verge of a spoon.
Merseyside
Another typically quiet bidding period from coach Jim Jimison. Morgan knowles has future England 13 written all over him.
Perth Taipans
Perth had a lot of momentum in the second half of last season. Perth were relatively quiet with a few minor pick ups with Reuben Cotter probably the most notable. Perth have a decent squad not to be snickered at.
Sydney Oilers
Pundits had coach Roger Bossert as a sure thing to go big and hard on Richie Myler to partner DCE in the coming season, the role of which has been empty since their gf win in 2019. Instead the eccentric thousandaire went big and nasty securing the two biggest and meanest props available in Liam Watts and Alex Twal. Rumours abound that if Sydney don't pull themselves together this season, Coach Bossert and Balmain RSC coach Winnie the Pooh might be swapping roles at the club.
