Another season done and dusted! I want to pay a massive congratulations to Matt for going back to back with the Gold Coast Crusade. I NEVER felt confident in going up against the Crusade this season and the GF pretty much justified my thoughts. With his 4th premiership, he joins CWB and Padds as the equal second most title winning coach behind Mack with six titles. No coach has ever won three PL titles in a row. With the make up of the new season being different, it will be a challenge but I certainly would not bet against the man.
I also want to congratulate the great man in Padds for breaking the Byron/Kensington stranglehold on the ESL with a great premiership win. Byron were strong for the first 15 rounds than pretty much died when it mattered.
Another congrats goes to Bill for his double minor premierships with Auckland//Byron. A bloody fine achievement.
Most of all, I want to than every coach that participated this season. ALL of you have added something this season and Im certainly looking forward to the next part of our journey.
As you already know, this offseason will go over an extended period with no date on when things will restart. It is an important time that we have to get right and do the best we can to rope in a few coaches. So, rushing things is not the best path of action.
We'll need time to ensure
(a) Our house is in order and ready to market our game to new people. A big relook of how things are at the moment will need to be looked at with a view towards making things as easy to take up for new coaches as possible.
(b) We decide on an offseason order of events and how it works (draft rules and building a roster).
(c) Settle on our 5 players
(c) Recruit like crazy
(d) Off season commencement of events (draft and bidding)
One way or the other, we WILL be playing at least another season of ASRL. But we need more coaches that what we have in order to go beyond next season. I love this game and definitely want things to roll on into the future. We have a great group of blokes and a great product without some of the fighting of the past.
Due to a heavy workload at work, my presence at ASRL will be kept to a bare minimum over the next two weeks. Use this time to
(a) Have a rest up
(b) If you feel inclined, please vote on the player ratings for players for next season.. I WILL be locking up the stat ratings page on the 27th of June to determine final ratings of players. So, have a vote before then. You will have time after the 27th (I'd say within that week) to decide which five players of your players you will keep for the following season.
Big thanks
Roger
