In a bizarre turn of events, returning North QLD coach Nick Bailey has allegedly ripped a door off its' hinges and chased players from the dressing room with it after his sides defensive capitulation in Brisbane today.
Despite improvement with the ball, Bailey was furious at his teams weak effort in defence in a match where they conceded 38 points for the second week in a row.
It is alleged that the notoriously bad tempered coach caused hundreds of dollars worth of damage and sent his players scattering in all directions as they returned post match, with players seen hiding at The Caxton (from which Bailey has a life ban after an incident in 2011).
Bailey refused to confirm or deny the rumours at the press conference, but his displeasure was obvious.
"What does it matter how we attack when we defend like a bunch of twelve year olds?" he said.
"That was absolute garbage out there today, it wasn't good enough. We kept dragging ourselves back into the contest and then blowing it with poor defence. You give a quality side like Brisbane chances and they'll make you pay, it's that simple."
"If you score four tries against most teams you should expect to win more than you lose, but not if you concede seven of the bloody things. There are some players who are going to be in for a hell of a ride this week at training that's for sure."
The game started poorly for the Dolphins, with the Cougars marching 60 metres upfield and scoring within the first 40 seconds. The visitors fought valiantly, but lapses in defence ensured they were never really in the game. It was the attitude in defence that infuriated the coach.
"I see blokes out there dropping off tackles, it's like they were thinking "nah, too hard". Put your body on the line for Christ's sake! A couple of times they strolled through a hole and two blokes looked at each other going "I thought you had him?" Make the damn tackle yourself, don't worry about what everyone else is doing."
"It was rubbish. Players have got to take responsibility and do their jobs in defence. We're under no illusions about our squad, we're probably lacking one or two qulaity halves, but the guys we do have can do a job if they are given the opportunity. They just don't get an opportunity when your defence leaks points like a Parramatta front office leaks stories."
"Defence is a basic necessity and if we can't do it right, we'll find some blokes who can."
