Hi all,
I would not normally be bringing this issue up now but with contract bidding underway, I think we need to nip this in the bud now so that coaches can allocate contracts accordingly.
The issue I want to bring up is re-rates. Re-rates are normally done every two seasons and coaches (I know I do anyway) plan their contracts according to them. With the Covid situation, only two NRL rounds have been played while I think four rounds (don't quote me on that) have been played in the ESL. It is a lot of work to put together a ratings period for everybody. The fact that people will have to rely on stats and what they saw last year makes things tougher. I anticipate that ratings changes will be very minimal with people who think their players have improved will have already used a re-rate for them. I don't think we'll get enough bang for our buck to do a whole re-rate only for very minimal changes.
Our regular season starts next weekend. We normally start re-rates around round 14-15. Round 15 is on July 31. I think for us to get enough bang for our buck to do accurate ratings, a minimum of 8 rounds must be played before then.....which means league would have to start by June 5 in order to get 8 rounds in (which in all honesty is extremely unlikely).
To cut a long story short, Im proposing that re-rates don't happen until another eight rounds take place whenever that happens. A re-rate period may not happen until next year of rugby league does not get underway in 2020. People still retain the right to use their re-rates.
Yes = Re-rates should happen regardless of state of league next offseason.
No = Re-rates should be put off until at least another 8 rounds of league are played.
For the NO vote to be upheld, it must get over 50% of the vote as it is a change to original procedure.
