MAD BARRY ALTERNATIVE
I'd like to share an idea that I've been playing around with for a little while now.
We all love our Mad Barry periods. The big problem is that this season, our two Mad Barry's will fall pretty flat as no lower grade football will be played. No junior footy will be played for the near future while NSW and QLD Cup are definitely cancelled for the year. Young footballers won't get the chance to show what they can do under this conditions.
Here is my suggestion. Instead of choosing a lower grade player for Mad Barry, I suggest to choose to add a stat point to a player in your squad. Here is the catch. Only one position and stat category can be chosen together at the same time.
For example, lets say with my pick, I choose to boost Aiden Tolman's attack stat from an 8 to a 9. I would have chosen Prop/Attack boost. Once I have chosen that combination, no other pick below me in the draft can choose that combination. This rule obviously makes higher picks very valuable as it gives the coach more options on where to allocate their point. The point will only be valid for the season. No more than one point can be allocated to any player....for example, you can't turn your 8 stat fullback into a 10 with two picks. Picks will also be available to be sold. Two winger, centre, prop and second-rower picks are allocated as two of those positions are on the field.
This style of draft will last as long as this covid situation lasts for lower grade football.
With drafts occurring in rounds six and twelve, the draft orders will be released in rounds five and eleven. The first draft will still be for squads with the least 8/8s or 9+ stat players in their squad with lowest previous season finish to act as a tiebreaker for teams with the same amount of players. The second draft is the reward draft to reward workers, article posters and loyalty.
This is just a discussion post. Whatever seems to be favoured, we'll go from there.
