One from England, St Helends young fella having a breakut season.
Looks sharp as a tack in games when you watch him, stat wise he is pretty solid also.
Currently a No 6 rated 6 , 5 , 7 , 5 , 6 He plays all over the place, halves, fullback, wing.
He has 8 tries in ESL this season (leader is on 12), 12 clean breaks (leader 18) 45 tackle busts & averages about 100m per match.
Defensively 84 tackles with 15 misses, close enough to 84% success makes his adequate in defence.
Still a bit green, so temp wont be a 10.
Looking for a utility change, & I think 8/5/7/5/6 would be about whats deserved by Mr Welsby.

8/5/7/5/6
IMO he should be rated as a fullback as this or five-eighth is his primary position, although he has been playing some wing this year due to injuries.

Can I just throw this out there as a semi-protest about Welsbys ute not being accepted; In super league & challenge cup 16 x games he has played this season
Wing x 4 FB x 6 Centre x 3 Half x 1 5/8 x 1 bench x 1
Thats a utility surely?
Sorry for posting here, I cant post in the rerate as its locked. You cant cover all those in ASRL from one position.

I have reopened this thread given the additional info bill has provided. With that data, he has a very clear argument for the utility request.
Adelaide agree with the utility request.

Welsby normally plays fullback, wing or centre. He CAN play in the halves. To cover the 3 positions he plays normally rate him as a wing.
We will do a full rerate end of this ASRL season. Will be reviewed then

Will be reviewed then Not can play Padds, has played. Thats what utilities do, play numerous positions. He is even listed as a half on St Helens player list, so I dont think its just some random forced hand thats being tried randomly. Cameron Murray CAN play numerous positions, but hasnt, so he cant be classified a utility, because he hasnt done it. Welsby has/ does. Why is this such a no brainier to me but cant be seen by others? You cant argue with facts, its there on the lineup sheets. & finally, from the St Helens Star (LOL, I read it often), an article that pretty much says it all www.sthelensstar.co.uk/sport/18060380.saints-hand-jack-welsby-four-year-deal/"The 18-year-old, who can play full back, centre or stand off, impressed in a string of impressive performances in 2019." & "He shone on the Academy’s 2017 Tour of Australia and in 2018 he was the Academy’s dominate half, proving to be a real threat with the ball before his form was rewarded with a first team debut in the win over Hull FC later that year." This halves role isnt something foreign to him.

I have watched Welsby a lot and in my view he is a natural fullback or five eighth, and his future will be at one of those positions if not both.
Saints have struggled with 3/4 injuries for the last couple of seasons and Welsby is on the cusp of being a regular so when a spot opens, he is the first candidate in line. He can play wing and he can play centre, although not particularly well.
I am sticking to my view that rating him as a fullback reflects his positioning but accept others might not agree. That’s life.

I've stated my case, I'll accept whatever. If not a utility, Jims point of FB is probably the next most valid.

Im going with him being a ute based on stats. He seems to be used a bit like Moses M'Bye from the Tigers. Where there is a gap top be plugged, Moses is usually the man.
Ute 8/5/7/5/6
