Another week of ASRL turmoil has unfurled and once again we have a top 6 no-one, even the great saige himself, could have predicted. Without further ado, lets jump into this weekends rankings based on rounds 1 and 2.
1.Rochdale Raptors (2-0-0)
Where has Coach Theo Ramis spawned from? The eccentric nephew of former Hollywood magnate Harold Ramis has arisen from complete obscurity to start the season with two strong victories. This week it was Thurtson-led Capetwon that was put to the sword by the Raptors. The injury gods have been kind to Rochdale with only recent recruit Jarrad Wallace in doubt for round 3.
2.Gold Coast Crusade (2-0-0)
Gold Coast are a typically strong starter every season and it will be hoped by the coastal surfing community that this season is the one that they finally return to their past championship opportunities. Gold Coast decimated first round heroes Glasgow this round and will look to continue their run with a completely injury free roster for round 3.
3.Melbourne Monsters (2-0-0)
The Monsters have taken down some strong competition in the first two rounds with Brisbane and Sydney falling at their feet. Mysterious and reclusive head coach Vladimir Smith has been very busy in the off season with trades and the new backline members James Roberts and Angus Crichton have been electrifying. Melbourne will hıppe the loss of Andrew Fifita won't stop their momentum.
4.Fairfield Stallions. (2-0-0)
Another team that has surprised the pundits in the first two rounds especially with this weekends shock victory over Premiers Adelaide. After many seasons as cellar dwellars perhaps the fairfield faithful will finally have something to cheer up. Niggling injuries to halves Micthell Pearce and Matty Smith as well as a few other team members is somewhat of a concern.
5.Brisbane Cougars (1-1-0)
Business was back to usual this round as the Cougars got back to their winning ways with a win of the Dolphins. This will not be good news to the vast majority of ASRL coaches who arenever thrilled about an inform Brisbane outfit. Having said that, last rounds victroy had conseuqnces with key spine members James Maloney and Darius Boyd out for at least round 3.
6.Adelaide Attitude (1-1-0)
Shock loss to Fairfield has brought the high-flying Attitude crashing back to Earth. The coach might blame complacency and this week will be looking to turn it around with no injury concerns whatsoever.
7.Glasgow Reapers (1-1-0)
A very up then down two opening rounds for the unpredictable Reapers. New recruits Inglis, Folau and De Belin have brought the star power Glasgow that Glasgow so desperately needed and a relatively healthy roster will give them the same chances that saw them shock the league in round 1.
8.Darwin Dragons (1-1-0)
After a tough round 1 loss, the Dragons came back with a win over Hull in a 78 point try fest. With some high quality halves Darwin will look to push on up the table but might have to do so with out Luke Keary this season.
9.Capetwon Ravens (1-1-0)
After a round 1 win, the Ravens were the second victims of the rampaging Rochdale Raptors. The ravens have a squad of stars but a number of small injuries wont make their jobs any easier in Round 3.
10. Auckland Orcas (1-1-0)
Fans of the Orcas would have been forgiven for decreeing coach Townsend a dullard and a fool after trading off Crichton, Wallace and Roberts in the last few weeks but many a relieved sigh came last rounds as the team got their first win of the season with a tidy victory over Canberra. ben Barba is the only main cog expected to miss this rounds match.
11.Hull KR (0-2-0)
Hull have not gotten on the score board for 2018 but it will be only a matter of time before Coach Padds gets his troops firing. Team leaders RTS and Cameron Munster havent gelled at all yet and will need to find some form as soon as possible.
12.Sydney Oiler (0-2-0)
Long suffering coach Roger 'Fedora' Bossert will be hoping that it is just opening round jitters and that superstar recruit Cameron Smith will show he is worth his paycheck. The Oilers have gone down without much of an offfensive fight and Tedesco will be looking to ignite his team mates.
Hopefully Jarryd Hayne and Akila Uate will follow his lead.
13.Canberra Carnage (0-2-0)
A slow start to the season for Coach Barry Tatts. A plethora of small injuries havent helped the season start and a two week injury for bona-fide super star nick cotric will likely keep him out this round.
14.North Queensland Dolphins (0-2-0)
A loss to the ever terrifying Cougars means the dolphins have a none so happy 2 loss start to 2018. However, with a much improved roster NQ will likely take some time to find its groove. Expect much more unity in round 3 from the dolphins. Injuries to Bromchwich and Tapau might lower their chances somewhat.
