...no, not between them!
There's a long story here, and the fearless reporter from the ASRL Grubber got it:
Before the kickoff of the Rochdale Raptors - Sydney Oilers game, but after the player introductions, a wedding took place, between Rochdale's marketing assistant, Inge Sorenson, and the assistant grounds maintenance chief, Steve Hanson...
...as it happens, Steve's from Australia, and loves all things Sydney, you know, the Opera House, the Ashes Tests there, the Oilers...but he found work, then love, in Greater Manchester...and love conquers almost all...Steve even agreed to take Inge's surname...
...and fortunately for Steve, Inge accepted everything about him, even the Oiler fandom (she's a Rochdale lass through and through, even though she's Norwegian - small world, isn't it?)...and so, when she revealed the engagement at work a few weeks ago, there was only one response from the Raptors' general partner, Zienia Merton: "You shall have the wedding here at Spotland..."
...and when she said "shall have the wedding here...", she meant, "You're bloody well going to have the wedding here!"...
...and when she said "at Spotland", she meant "before the Raptors - Oilers game, on the field"...
...and when she said "on the field", she meant, "with a guard of honor from both teams"...
...so when Roger Bossert heard this, even though he wanted to do a favour for one of his team's fans, he didn't just say "no!", he very colourfully embellished it...
...whereupon, Zienia rolled her eyes at Roger, and Raptors' boss Theo sighed, and rolled his eyes at both of them...
...because he would rather have had a standard routine before the kickoff of this game, which was worrying him all week...but he knew better than to argue about that, not with Zienia rolling her eyes like that!
So, the players were introduced, then the procession of bride and groom and their parties, past the players' honour guards, Oilers' captain Cameron Smith walking for the groom, Raptors' captain Daly Cherry-Evans walking for the bride, and both Roger and Theo (both grumbling all the while sotto voce) for their respective fans, and Zienia performing the ceremony (she thoughtfully had been licenced with the Registry Office as the legal officiant at the newly licenced wedding venue that Spotland had just become)...
...both Roger and Theo thawed out a little after the game, at the festive reception, very well catered by the Spotland catering department, and toasted the happy couple (despite the result, the couple was very happy!) with a bouquet of Four Roses...
...the walk-out/processional music at Spotland was not "Here Comes The Bride", but something quintessentially Norwegian...
