I've hung back on this one, but 7 weeks straight I think is enough to show this guy is going to keep delivering.
7/7/5/4/6 at present, lets fix that.
I'll compare him with the other top shelf hookers.
He is averaging 38.4 tackles per game, only 1.5 tackles less than the highly rated (10 in defence) McCullough, & more per game than Wallace, Freind, Pritchard....all highy regarded defenders.
His running metres, 99 per matches only threatened by Isaac Luke with 90, next best hooker sits at 55 metres per match.
Line break, 5 for the season, next best hooker isLuke & Havalli with 3.
Tackle Busts 23, next best again is Korisau & Luke with 15
That all looks great, but what cant be measured with stats is his acceleration & speed, thats his weapon & nobody else in the hooker role has it.
He is generally regarded as NSW hooker in waiting. He cant do any more.
Whats fair for this guy?
If I were rating him by eye, I'd be giving him 9/8, but his def stats surely get him to that 9 rating.
If your looking at stats & the threat he poses on the field week after week, he is a 9/9/6/6/7 (He has kicked a few goals last season & puts in the odd general play kick when needed.)

Rd 1, 44 tackles, 4 missed and 3 ineffective Rd 2, 49 tackles, 4 missed and 2 ineffective Rd 3, 42 tackles, 2 missed and 4 ineffective Rd 4, 44 tackles, 1 missed and 3 ineffective Rd 5, 34 tackles, 1 missed and 4 ineffective Rd 6, 22 tackles, 2 missed and 0 ineffective Rd 7, 32 tackles. 2 missed and 3 ineffective
I do think he lacks the tenacity of a McCullough or a Smith in defence. Modern hookers will always make a bucketload of tackles and I think we need to take that into account in our baseline ratings. I think some of the ratings rolling around for D are a bit silly honestly...Cook is perfectly good, but he falls off a bit and can be a bit lazy back on the inside.
That being said, I think he is (and has been since last season) the benchmark for attacking hookers. It maybe wasn't as noticeable statistically last year because he shared the role with Farah, but Souths always looked a much better, more direct side when he was on the field.
I'd be very, very tempted to rate him 10/8. Let me ruminate, and probably get shouted at by others, before giving my final vote....

First of all, I dont think anyone gets a 9 or more based on less than ten games and thats the absolute minimum. He was pretty darn good in his last five games of 2017 too although his tackling was generally much lower due to sharing the role with Farrah.
I am going to go out and give him a 9/8 based on his last 12 games but if he keeps his attack and defence at the same level for say another 5 rounds then come back and reapply for a 9/9 from me. The only reason im not giving a 9 defence now being because this defencive consistency has only been over 7 rounds now. I am not giving a ten either because I think to be a ten people need to show extreme abilities over at least a full season of domination.
9/8/6/6/6. A 6 tempo from me because he does have the occasional brain explosion.
