After riots and fires outside ASRL HQ in Ipswich, the 2018 Power Rankings team and their staticians have been rehired. In the mean time, Rochdale and Melbourne have lost their thrones, North Queensland have been on a run of remarkable efforts and Gold Coast have attained number 1 at the top of the table.
1.Gold Coast Crusade (6-1-1)
The silent achievers behind Rochdale and Melbourne, The Crusade have been silent but deadly throughout the 2018 season to stand alone in first place at the end of round 8. In particular their backline led by Sonny Bill Williams has been sublime.
2.North Queensland Dolphins (5-2-1)
After losing their first two matches, the Dolphins have clicked into gear with all their new purchases tearing a hole in opposition opponents. Joseph Leilua has been the star of the show in their charge but Coach Bailey will be going on without him in the next 3 to 4 rounds at least.
3.Rochdale Raptors (5-2-1)
It has been somewhat of a fall from grace ffor the raptors with successive defeats in rounds 7 and 8 and the none to thrilling round 9 clash with the in form Cougars. It has been the surprising threequaters combo of Mahe Fonua and Bunty Afoa who are in form for the Raptors right now.
4.Melbourne Monsters (5-2-1)
Like Rochdale, the Monsters have been in a mini rut with teams seeming to work out their wining strategy of the first few rounds. Vunivalu has been immense for the Monsters in the first 8 rounds but a shake up will be required to overcome a resurgent Auckland this weekend.
5.Brisbane Cougars (5-3-0)
Listen to the engine purr, as the cougars halves fire up as come into the business end of the season. James Maloney is the form player of the comp and early favourite for this years Golden boot.
6.Canberra Carnage (5-3-0)
A costly win for the lifting Carnage in Round 8 which see thems back in the 6 after a long stint on the outside. Gareth Widdop and Elliot Whitehead both suffered serious injuries which will have Canberra struggşing against the charging Dolphins this round.
7.Glasgow Reapers (4-4-0)
Glasgow continue to ride the form wave as they trade wins for losses from round to round. It is yet to be seen if the Reapers continue with the surprising halves duo of McSHane and De Belin which gave them a win over hapless Hull last round.
8.Adelaide Attitude (4-4-0)
A crucial win over Rochdale reestablished Adelaide in their 2018 campaign with the recall of Shaun Johnson to the number 7 paying dividends. Adelaide will still be missing their regular 3 and 4 with Percival and Cordner still on the sideline.
9.Fairfield Stallion (5-3-0)
A couple of losses in quick succession have sent the over achieveing Stallions out of the 6. The Stallions will be confident of getting back into the six against winless Hull in Round 9.
10.Auckland Orcas (4-4-0)
The ASRL's Mr Tradem's Coach Townsend had been quiet in recent weeks and maybe thats why a more settled squad has started to get a win or two. Jordan Rapana has enjoyed his shift to fullback and they will be hoping their superior backline can cope with struggling Capetwon in round 9.
11.Darwin Dragons (3-5-0)
Only 2 points outside the 6 technically means Darwin have everything to play for in round 9 against Adelaide. The loss of flamboyant half Mitchel Moses won't help matters.
12.Capetown Ravens (2-6-0)
Rumours abound about discontent among players and coach at Capetown and their form has been atrocious of late. With Johnathon Thurston out for the next three rounds at least it will be an uphill battle to climb the ladder starting with Auckland.
13. Sydney Oilers(1-7-0)
How much can a club go from celebrations of a new star to cursing his very name? Cameron Smith has not as of yet provided the salt he promised and coach Bossert will need a five star clover pulled out of ear to get the win against GC in round 9.
14. Hull KR (0-8-0)
The worst start to a season by a club in a receent memory. Coach Paddock will be nervously leading his troops out this weekend and surely the fans will be out for his blood if they dont get their maiden victory for 2018.
