North QLD have continued rolling with a scrappy 6-0 win over Sydney in Townsville, but it seems the side will still feel the wrath of a far from happy coach during the week.
The Dolphins slugged it out with a brave Sydney outfit desperate for a win, but fans and staff were left scratching their heads at a performance that was more befitting of a side in a similar position to their struggling opponents, and not one chasing 8 weeks without a defeat.
While the Dolphins were tough in hanging on against a spirited opponent, their coach was left fuming at the effort and the attitude his side displayed.
"We'll be treating that as a loss," said Bailey when asked how he felt about the win. "Yeah I'm glad we got the two points but that's literally the only positive about this game."
"The boys are going to be flogged this week as though we'd lost by thirty tonight. It's unacceptable. Give credit to Sydney, sure, they hung in there. But we threw nothing but shit at them all game."
"No I'm not gonna sit here and blame the weather. It rains sometimes. We put on a much better performance last week in Arctic conditions, a bit of tropical rain is absolutely no excuse. We're still not offering enough in attack."
The Dolphins, travelling well and undefeated since their loss to Brisbane in round two, were lacklustre with the ball and the coach believes his charges took their opponents for granted.
"We didn't want to do the hard work today. We went out there and expected to beat a side ranked a lot lower than we are without having to try. That's the most infuriating thing because we spoke all damn week about making sure we went through the processes and put ourselves on top. We never did that, we went away from trying to win field position and momentum and we looked like a rabble."
The performance comes at a poor time for the Dolphins, who face a tough run to the finals and would have banked on at least erasing their -12 point differential against the Sydneysiders. It leaves them with 14 competition points, but still nursing a negative differential, which may see them needing an extra win to ensure a finals position over rival sides.
"We're going to lose eventually. We're not arrogant enough to think we can win every game for the rest of the season, and with our differential already negative a loss could be a huge blow for us. There are a lot of sides still jostling for a finals spot and we've got a game against Fairfield next week who we are battling with for positions on the ladder. So it's really disappointing to attack the way we did tonight. We didn't even need to belt Sydney, just get that differential back above zero."
"It's really disappointing and we'll be working our guts out during the week to prepare for a massive game."
