Adelaide have been more active than ever of late on the trade market and mouths are dropping as inquisitive minds once again question and take note.
The Attitude have indeed traded out in fine fashion. Michael Morgan, grand final hero of this season past. Dane Gagai, international calibre back. Furthermore, a wealth of talent specifically from the Parramatta and Gold regions have left Adelaide with just 15 contracted RSC players for next season. Juniors of note to leave include AJ Brimson and Phillip Sami who head to Auckland. In return for all this loss Adelaide have received Victor Radley, Ngani Laumpe and Andrew McCullough as well as a healthy cash injection of $800,000 compliments of the North Queensland treasury. So why the mass trading?
Asked that question outside a local glue factory on a bright Thursday morning, a jovial Coach McElroy stated thus:
'Every team needs a healthy turnover of talent and the right ingredients in their footy soup. This season we made the mistak of going in with all stars and not enough depth. With Johnson and Milford at career peaks and Morgy suffering the blues this season, blubbering over every injured star on the roster we thought he could use some time elsewhere. He has been a valuable asset to our club playing in three grand finals for us but we knew we had to make sure we locked up a quality machine like hooker to have our roster set for 2018/2019. We feel with the inquisition of McCullough we now have almost our starting 17 for next season. The addition of Radley will add hugely to our young forward set that already includes Pangai, Sua, Lodge, Asofa-Solomona, Haas, Hess, Matterson and of course Taumalolo and Jake T. Ngani will also be someone that will push our star backs to perform at a high standard. As for the slew of juniors, cast aside. Lets say that the players we sent to North Queensland all had one horrible thing in common but that's a slippery topic.
Adelaide is expected to retain Semi Radrara in 2018/19 albeit at a higher price tag.
