Salute motherfuckers!!!!!! This is Grandmaster B in the ASRL house! Im here to share my two cents worth on who will take out this comp this year. While there are a lot of contenders for the throne, there are some deadset pretenders as well. Judging from the way my bro at Sydney coached this year, Im well versed on what a pretender looks like. Lets not fuck around and get on with business!
NQ Devils: Wow oh wow! I thought these hick hillbillies would be rolling in the dirt with Glasgow for the wooden implement. To the competition's benefit, I was wrong on both counts and GLAD to be wrong.
Bazal is one win away from one of the greatest upsets in ASRL history...a bottom two side taken to the top of the tree for the minor premiership. We have had some great coaches in our history....but none of them has ever transformed a shit team to sugar in the space of a season before. I hope he signs the masterpiece against Cape next weekend!
As for his chances in the big one.....the top two is a HUGE advantage. While I fear his chances against an in-form Darwin or Adelaide, those two motherfuckers have a big ladder to climb to even get in a position to take the title. I think he'll account for Gold Coast (most likely to finish 2nd) with ease and play in the big one! Anything can happen in a two horse race and he has form and most injuries will be healed up by the big day. My (slight) favourite for the title at this stage.
Gold Coast: Lyons' side has gone through a tough patch the last fortnight with his team's late season struggles mimicking last season's fall out of the competition. I thought they were morals to be minor premiers a month ago but things have not followed the script.
A big advantage for my homie in Lyons is that Gold Coast will likely finish top two. His injuries will heal plus a top two team only needs to win two games in a row to secure the title while other teams in the top six need to win four games in a row to secure the gold! I'd write Gold Coast off here and now if they failed to make top two as I'd doubt they could win four games on the hop.
Regardless, I think Gold Coast will struggle from here and I think they will exit the competition in straight sets.
Rochdale: My homie from the US of A has taken the ASRL by storm this season. A likely third place is a great achievement for the mouth from the north! I love the way this guy rolls!
As for the Badgers title credentials....his team is certainly hard to read and inconsistent. I think Rochdale really needed to seize that top two spot as I really doubt they can pull off four big wins in a row. While I think they can take sixth spot contenders in Auckland, Canberra or Fairfield, I doubt they will go much further.
Darwin: This motherfucker is flat out BAD and I mean that in a dangerous way. Darwin have all the tools and form to make a serious run at this premiership. They are hitting form at just the right time and are fairly injury free. The good news for North QLD and the other contenders is that they are likely to play 5th placed Adelaide Attitude in an elimination semi. If they get through Adelaide, I have them as the main threat to North Qld to the title.
Adelaide: I have never seen an Adelaide team more battered and bruised consistently through the season than this seasons edition. They just have not had a clear run....YET are 5th on the ladder. Despite a major injury to Shaun Johnson, IF they get through a very tough Darwin side (likely week one opponent), I have them as a serious challenger to North Qld. Adelaide must not underestimate old rivals Brisbane and beat them to secure a finals spot. They should get that job done.
Auckland: The most boring side in the competition. Listening to Celine Dion excites me more than watching that gang! What they do have going for them is by far the best defensive stats in the competition. While I think they will make the final six, I don't think they have the points to go any further in this competition.
Fairfield: These fuckers were third in the comp only a few weeks ago. Canberra will ice these fools next week.
Canberra: These fools have fallen down the slippery slide of doom. They have absolutely blown some chances this season and will pay the price by just missing out on the top six. Great coach, very sad fall from grace.
Glasgow: Mathematically a chance but an absolute longshot. Adelaide put the nails in their coffin this weekend.
